Selfmanaged

Getting started with Selfmanaged

Create your account, try the sample account, and set up your first home one step at a time, skipping anything for later.

Updated 25 October 2026

You can look round a sample account before you sign up.

Once you have an account, Set up takes you through your phone and your first home, one step at a time.

Create your account

  1. On Sign in, tap Create one.
  2. Fill in Your name, Email and Password. The hint under the password says when it’s long enough.
  3. Tap Create Account.
  4. Open the link that’s emailed to you. It confirms your address and signs you in.

If the email doesn’t come, check your spam folder. Then tap Send Confirmation Email Again on Check your email.

Try the sample account first

  1. On Sign in, tap Try It with Sample Data.
  2. Use it as you would your own account. What you change there lives only in that browser tab, and goes when you leave.
  3. To leave, go to Account, open The sample account, and tap Leave the Sample or Create Your Own Account.

Once you’re signed in, See How It Works under Account › Help and legal opens the sample again.

Sign in, sign out and your password

  • To sign in, type your Email and Password on Sign in, then tap Sign In.
  • If you’ve forgotten your password, tap Reset Your Password, type the Email for the reset link and tap Send Reset Link. Open the link, choose a new password and tap Save New Password.
  • To sign out, go to Account and tap Sign Out, under Settings.

Set up

Set up has twelve steps in three groups, about 15 minutes for your first home:

  • On your phone: On your Home Screen, Sign in there, Notifications, Emergencies on WhatsApp and Text size.
  • Your homes: Your homes, Tenancy, tenants, deposit, Certificates and alarms, Out of hours, Your trades and Tell your tenants.
  • Finding your way: Red items, Ask and Help.
  1. On Properties, tap Set up, at the top. Its line says how many steps are done.
  2. Tap a step to open it. It says why it matters, and its button does it or opens the screen where it’s done.
  3. Each step ticks itself once it’s done. To leave one for later, tap Skip This Step. Undo Skip brings it back.

A step that isn’t for your plan or your device says so, and isn’t counted. On a computer, Carry on on your phone shows a code: point your phone’s camera at it to open Selfmanaged there, and do the phone’s steps on your phone.

Once every step is done or skipped, the row leaves Properties. To open Set up again, go to Account, then Help and legal, then Set up.

Getting help

The answer is usually in the app already: under The Law on the item, or behind an (i) button.

For anything else, email support@selfmanaged.co.uk. A person reads it; nothing replies automatically.

On Standard and Extra

You can also tap Ask at the top of the screen. The first time, read what it does and tap Turn On Ask. Then tap a suggestion under Try asking, or type your own question. Ask only answers: it can’t change anything in the app. New Conversation starts again, and Turn Off Ask turns it off.
